Giant anteaters are found in South America, a full grown adult is about the size of a large dog. They eat ants and termites in huge numbers sometimes an adult will eat up to 30,000 in a day. They have very strong claws with which they tear open termite mounds; they then use their long sticky tongue to pull the termites out. They are hunted by large cats such as the puma and jaguar but the cats have to be careful because the anteater can kill them with a swipe of their claws. Mankind also hunts them for their meat; they are classed as a threatened species
